Deal to avoid Ukraine war within reach, says French president – BBC News
French President Emmanuel Macron will travel to Russia to meet with President Putin. He has said he thinks a deal to avoid full scale war in Ukraine is possible and that it is legitimate for Russia to raise its own security concerns.
Before talks in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, he called for a “new balance” to protect European states and appease Russia.
Russia has massed troops on Ukraine’s border but denies planning to invade.
Moscow has made a string of demands, including that the Nato defence alliance rule out Ukraine becoming a member, and that it reduce its military presence in eastern Europe.
Western countries have rejected this, instead suggesting other areas of negotiation, for example talks on cutting back nuclear weaponry.

The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.
“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.
In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.
He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.
Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.
Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.
The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

Explosions have been heard near two Iranian port cities, Bandar Abbas and Bushehr, state media has reported.
It comes after another night of strikes between the US and Iran, with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps saying it hit two UAE tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and targeted US facilities in Jordan and Bahrain.
The UAE called the attack “brazen”, adding that an Indian crew member was killed and eight others were injured.
Meanwhile, the US military says it completed strikes on targets aimed at degrading “Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping” – Iranian state media reports three people were killed.

The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.
Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.
President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.

USA should negotiate with Russia so that they will not continue their aggression for their borders. It's better to have a deal talk rather than continuing given arms to Ukraine because its only move to scalalation. Leaders take pride today that they don't want to give up and talk on the table.

One question EVERYONE forgets to ask is, or is it too shameful to realize how reluctant west diplomats are to realize what needs to be done to end this war NOW. Lots of CIVILIANS, MOTHERS AND CHILDREN die daily, WHICH IS NOT ACCEPTABLE UNDER DEMOCRATIC LAWS AS THESE LEADERS, THEY THEMSELVES POINT TO Putin. One question lead to another:
a) Who is REALLY the root cause of Putin taking the next step and invading Ukraine?
Merkel (Germany) and Macron (France) have entered into an agreement with Putin and then entered TRADE AGREEMENTS WITH HIM, which undermined Zelensky's claims.
It is clear in some films how satisfied Merkel and Macron are after these agreements. These trade agreements now put the NATO countries in A TERRIBLE DISADVANTAGE. These agreements have also enabled Putin to spend very large sums on building up his military force!
Merkel has gone SILENT and Macron CONTINUES the LAME attitude which is partly the cause of the war and therefore stimulates Putin to become more aggressive with serious THREATS!
The withdrawn and cowardly attitude towards Putin can only be perceived as Macron leaning more towards Russia then towards the US and democracy!
b) Do Merkel and Macron have the training and thus the skills to negotiate?
Being a politician does NOT mean that it automatically gives a person the qualities to conduct negotiations at ANY LEVEL. Macron has NO QUALITIES AT ALL to negotiate with a MASS MURDERER, DICTATOR AND THIEF.
History has shown that IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO NEGOTIATE WITH SUCH TYPES. THEY ARE NOT RELIABLE, which Macron has apparently FORGOTTEN or NEVER LEARNT!
c) Are there RULES for how persons like Putin should be treated?
One rule is to NEVER NEGOTIATE WITH A DICTATOR AND A THUG AS A UNDERDOG, of that there are lots of examples shown to be fatal, which the Ukrainian war is ONE EXAMPLE of.
If you are at a disadvantage, the situation must be CHANGED IMMEDIATELY SO that A SUPERIOR POSITION can give a SUCCESSFUL NEGOTIATION STATUS. NONE of EU, UN, NATO and US REPRESENTATIVES have this POSITION TODAY!
d) Why have NO leaders in the EU, UN, NATO and US created this SUPERIOR status even TODAY?

I can't understand why USA projects itself as international COP..USA UK are most untrustworthy. Even China too is untrustworthy. EU should get out of NATO and make a new block along side Russia which is cultural inclined and geographically viable.This will bring down hegemony of USA and cunning UK.The world will be better place for prosperity by that way.This will also help Russia not to be too much dependent on China..#westiswaste
