Peregrine Moon mission runs into trouble after launching | BBC News
The Peregrine spacecraft – launched as part of a private US Moon mission – has run into technical trouble after launching from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on a Vulcan rocket.
According to the company behind the project, the spacecraft has experienced an “anomaly” that has stopped it from pointing its solar panels stably at the Sun.
And, without the ability to charge its batteries and maintain a power supply, the mission will be unable to proceed.
But, Astrobotic said engineers were working on the issue, amid hopes that it will become the first American mission in half a century to make a soft landing on the Moon – first commercial endeavour to do so.

Tens of thousands of organisations have been caught out by a computer virus called WannaCry. The malicious software locks data away and demands a payment of up to $300 (£230) a time before it will restore scrambled files. In the UK, many hospitals fell victim and some health organisations diverted ambulances and cancelled non-essential services as they sought to contain and clean up the infection. Infections in more than 99 nations are being reported by security firms. It appears that the hardest hit are Russia and Spain.

Stop sourcing desinformation from Republican sites and other Ruski dumpsters. Remains were promised to be launched into space, mission accomplished. 2 out of 4 launch objectives fullfiled perfectly. Everything else is a private company's problem, NASA (taxpayers) lost a couple of bucks and will ride the next lander, be it from Astrobotics or other private company, not a big deal.
Compare to Ruskis who were spending their taxpayers money on failed Angolan aventures.

It was hmmm maybe 10 years ago when NASA was making the announcement that they would return man (in the flesh) to the moon. IN THIS SAME ANNOUNCEMENT…THEY SAID "there are NO GARRENTEE FOR THE SAFE RETURN TO EARTH'S SURFACE ONCE THE SPACECRAFT HAS LEFT EARTH'S LOW ORBIT…" "THE MISSION WOULD BE ONE WAY ONLY…."

It's disheartening to see the valuable scientific instruments and the years of dedication from scientists and engineers invested in building that intricate lander go to waste. 😢 Sixteen years of hard work rendered futile.
