James Toney vs Mike McCallum II | Full Fight | IBF Middleweight Title | 29/8/1992
James Toney vs. Mike McCallum II, billed as Once Is Not Enough, was a professional boxing match contested on August 29, 1992, for the IBF middleweight title.
Toney and McCallum had previously met the previous December, fighting to a split draw. Given the indecisiveness of the decision, talks of a rematch happened immediately afterwards during the post-fight press conference with McCallum stating “I’d love to do it again, it wasn’t nothing but fun”.
A rematch was not agreed to for the time being however, and Toney instead went on to make his next defense against Dave Tiberi in February 1992, being declared the winner by a highly disputed split decision despite Tiberi seemingly dominating the fight. Toney would then make another successful defense against Glenn Wolfe in April on the undercard of the George Foreman–Alex Stewart fight, while McCallum would have one tune-up fight between his two fights against Toney, defeating journeyman Fermin Chirino by unanimous decision in May. Following Toney winning a non-title tune-up against Ricky Stackhouse, the Toney–McCallum rematch was set to take place on August 29, 1992.
Prior to the fight, Toney and his team, trying to get in the almost 36-year old McCallum’s head, presented McCallum a rocking chair inscribed with “Happy Retirement, Mike” at a press conference and the two fighter nearly came to blows at another press conference after Toney suddenly jumped up from his chair and challenged McCallum.

James Toney vs Mike McCallum I | Full Fight | IBF Middleweight Title | 13/12/1991
James Toney vs. Mike McCallum was a professional boxing match contested on December 13, 1991, for the IBF middleweight title.
Promoter Bob Arum, looking to begin the process of unifying the three major world titles in order to crown an undisputed middleweight champion, organized a unification bout between reigning IBF middleweight champion James Toney and WBA middleweight champion Mike McCallum. However, these plans were derailed when the WBA stepped in, refused to sanction Toney–McCallum fight and ordered that McCallum instead defend his title against mandatory challenger Steve Collins, whom McCallum had soundly defeated the previous year. McCallum asked the WBA for an exception to purse Toney, but the WBA requested McCallum pay them $30,000 from his purse, an additional $35,000 for an exception fee and finally $50,000 to Collins’ manager in order for them to allow him to face Toney first. McCallum declined the WBA’s terms and instead opted to continue on with his fight against Toney, allowing the WBA to strip him of the title. The vacant WBA middleweight title would be decided the following April with the number-one ranked Collins facing number-two contender Reggie Johnson with Johnson winning by majority decision.

Miguel Cotto vs Antonio Margarito 1 | Full Fight | WBA Welterweight Title | 26/7/2008
Miguel Cotto vs. Antonio Margarito, billed as “The Battle”, was a professional boxing match between WBA welterweight champion Miguel Cotto and former IBF and WBO welterweight champion Antonio Margarito.
Cotto and Margarito’s aggressive boxing styles led to much speculation of a potential fight of the year candidate. Junior welterweight titleholder Paulie Malignaggi said that the fight would be “pure entertainment”, and HBO commentator Jim Lampley said that “I’m asking for one of my top 10 fights in my 22 years of calling fights on television”.
Dave Larzelere of Sporting News wrote that the bout had “the potential to be one of those epic Irresistible Force vs. Immoveable Object kind of battles that we talk about forever afterwards, à la Hagler/Hearns or Corrales/Castillo”.
Jeff Haney of the Las Vegas Sun described the fight as “not only the sport’s most promising matchup of the year. It also conjures memories of past fights in which regional or national pride was at stake”, noting the rivalry between Mexico and Puerto Rico.
The Arizona Republic wrote, “Cotto, an impassive and intimidating Puerto Rican, and Margarito, a patient and tough Mexican, are another chapter in a rivalry rich in legends and still productive”.
Yahoo! Sports writer Kevin Iole felt that the boxing match would provide a performance similar to that of the fight between Jose Luis Castillo and Diego Corrales, which was named fight of the year by The Ring magazine.
