Tributes have been paid to police officer Sergeant Matiu Ratana, who was shot dead in a custody centre in Croydon, in South London.
A 23 year old suspect, who subsequently turned the weapon on himself, is in a critical condition in hospital.
The police watchdog said the suspect was in a custody suite with his hands cuffed behind his back when he opened fire.
